Narcotics Unit Arrests on Dogwood Trail

On the afternoon of Thursday, February 26, 2015, the Corsicana Police Department's Narcotics Unit was conducting surveillance on a residence in the 1800 block of Dogwood Trail after the unit had received several citizen complaints of suspected drug activity at the residence.

The detectives then observed a vehicle leaving the residence. The detectives observed the vehicle circle the neighborhood after the vehicle committed a minor traffic violation and the vehicle come to a stop at the end of Dogwood Trail.

The driver then fled on foot as the passenger stayed in the vehicle. Detectives pursued the driver on foot and observed him throw a backpack over a privacy fence of a nearby residence. The detectives caught the suspect in the rear yard of the residence he had just left and were able to arrest him with minimal force. The backpack was recovered with about two and a half pounds of marijuana in it. The suspect also had a large amount of cash on him.

The passenger of the vehicle, who resided in the residence that was under surveillance, was detained.

A search warrant was then obtained and detectives searched the residence. Inside they found about an additional two pounds of marijuana, digital scales, two handguns, and over $8,000 in cash. Nearly $10,000 total in cash was seized in the house and on the suspects.

The passenger was then arrested for possession of marijuana over 4 ounces - less than 5 pounds. After his arrest the Navarro County Probation Office placed a probation violation hold on him, which means the suspect could not bond out until the probation violation was addressed.

The driver was charged with possession of marijuana over 4 ounces - less than 5 pounds, evading arrest on foot, a probation violation warrant, and three City of Corsicana Class C misdemeanor warrants.

The citizens that were observant of the suspicious activity in the neighborhood and contacted the drug unit are commended for their actions that ultimately led to the arrests.

The Narcotics Unit detectives are also commended for their excellent investigative work.

Citizens with information regarding suspected drug activity should contact the drug unit detectives Garrett Harrell at 903-654-4933 or Kenny Dunagan at 903-654-4913. Citizens are not required to identify themselves.

Citizens with possible information regarding other crimes should contact Sgt. Paul Jock at 903-654-4911.

With the continued support of the community we are optimistic that crime will continue to decrease as it has the last two years.
