Non-Civil Service Employment Applications cannot be used for Fire and Police entry level examinations. 

The dates for all police and fire examinations are posted on the Civil Service bulletin boards throughout the City of Corsicana Government Center and advertised in various publications. Eligibility lists are valid for 6 months from the date certified by the Civil Service Commission.

Corsicana Police Department

The Corsicana Police Department hires officers from an eligibility list established by individuals who successfully complete the City of Corsicana civil service written test. This list is valid for six months or until it is exhausted. Registration for the Civil Service Examination will commence approximately two months prior to the exam.

Police Officer Requirements

Minimum qualifications for police officers are:

  • U.S. citizen
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High school diploma/transcript or a G.E.D.                                                                                                                                              Applicants that have a G.E.D. must have either 24 months of active-duty military service and an Honorable Discharge or have earned 12 credit hours from an accredited college or university.
  • Good moral character
  • Must pass psychological test
  • Must pass entry level written examination, physical agility exam, thorough background investigation, and oral interview

Required Documentation

These required documents must be included with the application along with the signed City of Corsicana Police Department Disqualifications document when received in the Civil Service Office. Faxed applications and requirements are also accepted.

  • Copy of High School Transcripts or Copy of G.E.D. (original or certified copy will be required for Personal History Statement)
  • Copy of College transcript(s), if  applicable. (original or certified copy will be required for Personal History Statement)
  • Copy of Form DD-214 stating an Honorable Discharge, if applicable. Applicants with military service will have 5 points added to their written test score (with a passing score of 70) provided they submit a DD-214.
  • Copy of TCOLE certification, if applicable

Corsicana Fire Department

The Corsicana Fire Department is committed to serving the community with integrity and professionalism. All applicants seeking an entry-level position must successfully complete the written Civil Service Entrance Examination, which is conducted as necessary to maintain a hiring eligibility list.

Firefighter / EMT Requirements

Minimum qualifications for firefighters are:

  • U.S. citizen
  • Between 18 and 35 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED

To be eligible to test for an entry level position as a Firefighter, an applicant must be: 

1. Certified or certifiable as a Structural Firefighter with Texas Commission on Fire Protection; OR 

2. Certified or certifiable as an EMT-Basic or EMT Paramedic with Texas Department of State Health Services. 

“Certifiable” means evidence of current enrollment in a training academy approved by Texas Commission on Fire Protection and/or current enrollment in a school curriculum for EMT-Basic or EMT-Paramedic with the Texas Department of State Health Services. 

Preference may be given to applicants who possess certification in the following order:

1. Firefighter/Paramedic - Dual Certified. Applicants who possess both TCFP Structural Firefighter and DSHS EMT-Paramedic certification are “dual certified” and may first be given preference regardless of their position on the list.  

2. Firefighter/EMT- Basic Dual Certified. After all Firefighter/ Paramedic certified applicants have been considered, those applicants who are “dual certified” and possess certifications as a Structural Firefighter and EMT-Basic may be given next preference. 

3. EMT-Paramedic. After all dual certified applicants have been considered, those applicants who possess certification as a Paramedic from the Texas Department of State Health Services may be given next preference. 

4. Single Certified/Certifiable. After all “dual certified” and Paramedic certified applicants have been considered, those applicants who possess a single certification as an EMT- Basic and are enrolled in a training academy as structural firefighter with Texas Commission on Fire Protection; and those applicants that have completed academy as a structural firefighter with Texas Commission on Fire Protection and are enrolled in a school curriculum as an EMT- Basic with the Texas Department of State Health Services will be considered. Applicants will be considered in the order of their test scores. “Certifiable” means evidence of current enrollment or completion in a training academy approved by Texas Commission on Fire Protection and/or current enrollment in a school curriculum for EMT Basic or EMT-Paramedic with the Texas Department of State Health Services. 

All City of Corsicana Firefighter employees must successfully pass the National Registry examination at the EMT Basic or EMT-Paramedic level upon completion of academy.

Must be able to pass the entry level written examination; physical ability test; thorough background investigation; polygraph; oral interview; physical (after job offer) and drug screen.

Upon submittal of application packet and required documentation, you will be emailed a Personal History Statement that you must bring with you and turn in on test day.
